DIGITAL TRANSLATION SOLUTION

For my Bachelor's thesis, written together with Elsa Lönn, we explored how museums can enhance their offering of translations through a user-friendly digital solution. Our project resulted in a prototype that was tested by several participants in a museum setting. This work was done in collaboration with Jönköping Kommun and is soon published.

We developed the prototype by examining digital translation solutions used by other Swedish museums, reviewing relevant research, and adhering to guidelines such as WCAG. The prototype was tested in a session where participants performed various tasks while thinking out loud, providing insight into their thought processes. Participants frequently emphasized the importance of a simple and clear interface.

The findings showed that participants found the digital translation solution easy to understand and operate. Most participants believed it improved their museum experience by allowing them to read and listen to text in their native language, rather than relying on English or Swedish.
